Expat numbers are growing in Hungary – perhaps to the surprise of some already living here. According to the latest figures there are over 220,000 here, and more and more expats are settling in Hungary for significant periods of time.

Economist and central banker Alexandre Lamfalussy, born as Sándor Lámfalussy in Hungary, has died at the age of 86, his family said on Monday. A resident of Belgium, Lamfalussy was known as “the father of the euro” and for his financial service industry policies. He left his native Hungary in 1949.
Number Of Births In Hungary Growing For 20 Consecutive Months

The number of births in Hungary has been up in each of the past 20 months, an official at the Ministry of Human Resources said on the occasion of Mothers’ Day. Hungary is a family-friendly country and the government wants to do everything in its power to make sure that the growth in births continues, Tünde Fűrész said at Mothers’ Day celebrations in a Budapest hospital on Sunday.

"In January, the Dutch Embassy became the first embassy in Hungary to go Fair Trade. The embassy just placed their first order of Treehugger Dan's Fair Trade Kafequo coffee (55% arabica/45% robusta). The beans come from Peru and Tanzania, and are mixed and roasted by Caffe Agust in Italy. This move was quickly followed by the Gambian Embassy.
